Do you want a good excuse to visit a natural hot springs? I mean other than to relax.
For my birthday one of my best friends organised a surprise day out, complete with a healthy picnic, a trek up the 1000 steps, a relaxing afternoon at the Peninsula Hot Springs and dinner. How lucky am I?
Hot springs all around the world provide many health benefits, and one benefit I can tell you without any sort of science qualification is stress-relief. Taking time to disconnect from technology and just lay floating in the water does wonders for your mind. In terms of other benefits, they’re below 🙂
Hot Spring Benefits
Trace minerals found in most hot springs are absorbed into the skin which helps the body:
- Get rid of toxins
- Increase circulation
- Improve skin appearance
- Relieve pain
- Improve the immune system

The fact that my bestie organised a surprise day for me was the very best present, but the second best thing would have to be visiting the Peninsula Hot Springs. The Peninsula Hot Springs is the first natural hot springs in Victoria, located under 90 minutes drive south of Melbourne, with pools that contain natural thermal mineral water from an underground aquifer 637 metres below the surface.
We spent our afternoon in The Bath House which has 20 different bathing options including a cave pool, reflexology walk, Turkish steam bath, sauna, cold plunge pools, family bathing area, massaging thermal mineral showers, hilltop pool and indoor and outdoor footbaths.
The facilities at The Peninsula Hot Springs are excellent with large bathrooms, landscaped gardens and drinking fountains around the complex. Unfortunately the pools can get a little busy, especially the Hilltop Pool which overlooks the beautiful scenery below, so I would recommend visiting earlier in the day.Even if the mineral rich water did nothing for our health I would recommend a visit to The Peninsula Hot Springs or a natural hot springs near you, purely for the relaxation and stress relief of sitting in warm water in a beautiful location, but knowing that the hot springs can help with a variety of health concerns, I will strongly recommend you go.
Make sure you take a cold water bottle with you or drink at the water fountain every time you see one as it is easy to become dehydrated due to the warm temperatures.
Have you noticed a positive change from visiting a hot spring?
